This great picture of mountain and valley lines I took from an instructables article (What Is Pepakura And How To Start) that can be found here. Non-solid lines are fold lines, and the type of line indicates which direction that fold will be.ĭash Lines = “Mountain Fold” = This line will be the peak of the fold and the faces on either side will go away from you.ĭash Dot Lines = “Valley Fold” = This line will be the bottom of the fold and the faces on either side will come toward you. There are two types of non-solid lines as well, dashed lines as well as dash/dot lines. I recommend placing the ruler OVER the design and cutting the outside, rather than putting the ruler outside the object and risk cutting into the shapes.Īll solid lines are to be cut all the way through. Place your cork-backed ruler along an outer edge of the piece to cut out.You can see the borders I left around the objects in the pictures for the next step. This allows you to cut quickly with the scissors and will make your detailed cutting (along the lines) much easier without having to deal with all the excess. Using the scissors cut out your object leaving a small amount of border around all of the edges.Confirm you have the card-stock with the piece you want.Find the card-stock page containing that piece and grab your scissors. As we said in part 1, the 2-D equivalent will be highlighted on the right side of the screen. How do you know what piece you’ll need? Well pick a spot, any spot, on the 3-D model, and select it. So I’d recommend if you’re over 6 pages of card-stock, consider cutting out the piece you’ll need, and working with that before moving on to the next one. With most things I like to do all of the cutting first, but what if you have a pep file that’s more than a few pages long? That can become a LOT of pieces floating about. Having the 3-D model right there for reference can help with construction. Once you have all that, keep your computer handy with the file opened up in either Pepakura viewer or Pepakura designer.
